What we do Advocacy - We advocate on behalf of young people in Ireland. In the 1970’s the County Galway Federation of Youth Clubs was formed from locally based (federationsor) groupings of clubs and the Department of Education created the Youth Service Service Grant Scheme allowing the recruitment of a Regional Development Officer.
In the 1990’s we secured resources from EU funding programmes to develop new projects and become involved in alliance and partnerships both at local projects level and across the city and county. The History of Youth Work Ireland We came from a youth club movement that started in the 1960’s co-ordinated nationally by the National Federation of youth clubs. We work in partnership with a number of community groups and statutory bodies in the development and employ 36 staff who with the support of over 300 adult volunteers deliver; a comprehensive and diverse range of services to young people throught the county of Galway. We do this through supporting communities to set up and deliver youth programmes on a voluntary basis, and by developing services to young people implemented by paid staff. Youth Participation - We believe in real and genuine participation where young people have the opportunity to have their voices heard.
